I may be a demon, but my powers are weak. Not nearly enough to slay a platoon. I needed more firepower then I had. This Roger I'd known a while. He was an albino and a self-made outcaste. I do not think he realized he was the cause of his fate, though. Roger looked for redemption where he needed none. Like the animalistic demon I was, I sought this weakness out and exploited it to my benefit. Neither side of me felt regret. "If this happens," I began, "Your species will need a savior. A demon can't save, I can only kill. They will need you so they can accept you."
I'd said more then was necessary but Roger bought it. His Voice told me so. I turned, satisfied and resumed what I was working on which was a series of pipe bombs. I'd need them. A large enough blast could take out about six people.
The Roger read the movement wrong. His Voice shivered and asked why I hated him. He tried to reconcile as I tried to hide my obvious cringe against the mental onslaught. Fortunately, Roger was so upset he didn't notice.
"Look, I'm no sniper but I'm a decent shot. I'm a good arm. Bet you've never seen anyone chuck a molitov cocktail thirty meters." He was bragging, of course. His Voice betrayed him. Not that it mattered.
"I didn't question you, Roger." I tried to keep my tome non-threatening but it came out sounding slightly angered. The human always did that to me.
Roger's Voice cried out again and I shivered. The albino was so fearful of how others perceived him, and he seemed to hate himself deeply. He was in need of help, everyone but he knew it. Roger tried to sound brave. "I've such a battle yell it'll set your fur on end." He babbled on.
Perceiving the only way to shut him up and get on with my work was to show him he was accepted -and that bluntly so-I shoved a finished pipe bomb towards him and turned back to my work bench. "With any luck you won't have to yell a damn thing," I muttered trying to sound civil. It wasn't something I was good at.
Roger accepted the explosive eagerly, but his voice shivered at what I'd said, wondering if I would kill him too.
