Love is Found and Lost
by Derpy Chuian, 2011
I will never forget the day I met her. It was on a trading planet, one that attracted many travelers, and had many places for various species to meet.
I was with a trade convoy heading out to a myche colony on some moon. I was the most average a guy could get. Human, male, brown hair, green eyes. I was having a drink at a mixer bar. When I first saw her, I was already four shots in, and possibly out of my mind.
She was this rugged looking chuian, with brown fur and eyes. She was telling the other bar patrons a story, and I couldn't take my eyes off of her. After her story was over, I was feeling bold, so I offered to buy her a drink. She laughed at me, but accepted.
Drinking led to talking, which, amazingly, led to flirting. We discovered our love for each other under the spell of booze, and we soon ended up in my hotel room somehow. That night, we slept in the same bed, but not together in the traditional sense. Due to obvious size differences, we contented ourselves to sleeping unclothed together, snuggling until we slept.
Over the next two days, we were never apart. We traveled around the planet, visiting any place of interest. It was heaven to me. But, sadly, nothing lasts forever. We both had contracts to fulfill. So, we agreed to finish our works, and meet back on the same planet to marry. When she left, I cried, and prayed for her safe return. That was three months ago.
Now, I sit at the same bar where we met, drinking away the latest news. The ship she was aboard had been destroyed in a freak accident, just days after we had parted. Something about engine failure in a meteor storm. I drink until it doesn't hurt as much, then I leave. I know a great place to go, a dump site down the block. The hurt will go away for good, and if there are gods out there, maybe they will have pity on me and reunite me with my love.
