Lypha: Does he respond to other outside stimuli?
Akned: I can see you’ve done a little research into schizophrenia. The answer is yes, occasionally. But believe me- when he does… you’ll wish he didn’t.
Lypha: Is he aggressive?
Akned: Aggressive? Not so much, no. He only gets violent when he thinks there’s danger.
Lypha: So…
Akned: What a man perceives as danger is not always where the true danger to him lies. Even sane men do this. Oh, you’ll notice his hair is quite shaggy. We tried to cut it five months ago. I have a scar on my leg from then. Don’t try it.
Lypha: I’m not getting why this matters.
Akned: Well, figure it out. Keep in mind we’ve restrained him for a reason.
Lypha (thinking): I guess I thought it was an alien convert behind the door. I thought I’d prepared. The past likes to fool you like that. He heard me. Human. He’s human. I feel…betrayal, anger, terror, hate, disgust- things I can’t control. He might as well have been the one to pull the trigger, to me. Hate doesn’t overrule logic, it uses it. But then… I see the scars. Not just on his skin. The way he stands, the way he moves. Hate, pity…
Either way, I have orders.
